Yes, it's a horrid place, but there are hidden treasures to be found within. Just ignore the sales-pitches and grab the goodies. Oh, and what goodies do we get today! * Gigantic: Rampage Edition https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/p/gigantic-rampage-edition-03f532 With a name like that, you'd think maybe it's game about giant monsters stomping all over a city, but no, it's a colorful but uninspired hero-shooter / MOBA. Not a very good one from reviews either, with many reviewers citing bugs and a lack of developer attention (not to mention a dearth of other players, something that's somewhat essential to a multiplayer game). That said, apparently when everything /does/ work as intended, it's a fun game... if you can get into its style and mechanics. I've little interest in MOBAs and the cartoony visuals do nothing for me, so I'm in no rush to play this one. But different tastes for different folk. Maybe this freebie and the resultant surge of new players will convince the developers to fix all the problems and it will become something others (not me) can really enjoy. * The Callisto Protocol https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/p/the-callisto-protocol The two things I've heard said most about this game is that it's gorgeous, and that it's an inferior "Dead Space" clone. I don't entirely disagree with the first; it's a good looking game, but I don't really think it stands out that much against its competitors. The second is absolutely true, but that isn't as much of a negative as it might sound. I'll be the first to agree that "Callisto" doesn't quite match up to "Dead Space"... but only because "Dead Space" is such a high bar to clear. "Callisto" doesn't quite have the same pacing, the same excellent level design as "Dead Space"; it's story isn't quite as good, the scares don't hit quite the same. It definitely lacks the novelty, being such an obvious imitation. Still, it remains an excellent game, and --especially if you're a fan of sci-fi action/horror-- this isn't a game to miss. If it were a case of 'which game do I BUY?' I'd say "Dead Space" definitely... but since "Callisto Protocol" is free, it's an absolute no-brainer. Get this one and play it. There, that wasn't so scary, was it? Sure, we got a little dirty, rooting around in the muck of EGS, but it was worth it. Two free games, and who knows what we'll get next week? Well, I guess we'll find out in seven days!
