The Russians won WW2 for the allies, and the rest of the alliance has hated them for it ever since. The alliance as a whole fought a lot of battles to defeat the Germans, but the Russians fought more of them than anybody else, and lost more combatants in the process. Stalin was a murderous psychopath, and there were excellent reasons to hate him for it, but he didn't do as much damage to the Russian war effort as Hitler did to the German war effort, or at least not after the war was under way. John Larkin has an exaggerated idea idea of the US contribution to victory in WW2 - the atomic bomb was crucial in frightening Japan into surrendering, but for the rest the US was useful but rather less than decisive. -- Bill Sloman, Sydney
