I was granted a fellowship for one year while I lectured at Fordham University. I remember well the US was in the middle of the OPEC oil embargo. The good folks of Texas (who at that time had plenty of their own oil) made popular a bumper sticker that read:"Drive a Cadillac and freeze a Yankee".
