I think I have (already repeatedly) expanded on that, so let me just enumerate some obvious aspects sparsely... - expanding tilde once at dedicated places vs. twice - consistency with other expansions (not done twice), e.g. '$HOME' - (and if you accept that) consistency with the other shells (Any single inconsistency is IMO already worthwhile to be critically discussed.)
