Even a simple thing like not wearing your shoes in a Temple is beyond them. My wife and I visited the Wat Pho temple and there must have been 50 pairs of shoes at the entrance and an American girl was asking her mother, "Do I have to take my shoes off?" Now I do understand that taking ones shoes off to enter a religious place is perhaps unique to some places in Asia but the 50 pairs of shoes at the entrance might have been a clue that something is different here.
