My last house was a raised ranch, two levels. While not below ground, the bottom level had about a third of the area for heating system, oil tank, laundry, storage space, typical basement type stuff. I do have a two car garage. Like most houses here with them, one car fits comfortably with the other "stuff" in there. Water table too high here to dig an 8 ft deep hole.
