I have good luck with 40tude Dialog, and I run it under wine on Linux. It may be old, but consider that Usenet hasn't changed much either. It's working fine for me. > Are there any more modern or updated text newsreaders that aren't tied > to pay servers, or primarily for email? Not really, as far as gui programs. Sylpheed is ok, but it has one issue I really dislike. Unless I'm using it incorrectly, when it does an automatic check of the server while I'm reading a message the message then just disappears (no longer Unread). I find that irritating.
