I have good luck with 40tude Dialog, and I run it under wine on Linux. It
may be old, but consider that Usenet hasn't changed much either. It's
working fine for me.

Not really, as far as gui programs. Sylpheed is ok, but it has one issue I
really dislike. Unless I'm using it incorrectly, when it does an automatic
check of the server while I'm reading a message the message then just
disappears (no longer Unread). I find that irritating.
