It's science fiction.  The first three books follow the exploits of
an operative that would do special operations to change governments
at the behest of an arguably evil empire.

He has a very interesting character arc where he ends up helping
protect an independent colony from said empire -- the Ecolitans.
He's kind of a "James Bond -- in space!".[*]

[*] I know James Bond went to space in _Moonraker_, but this
is a little further into the future.
