Il me semble que l'efficacité ne soit pas mirobolante; toutefois, j'ai vu des piles à combustible (gaz naturel) être utilisées dans des réseaux électriques de villes (p.ex. Lausanne) pour la stabilisation et les pointes de consommation. J'avais aussi entendu dire que dans le cas de l'hydrogène, il fallait changer tous les 3 ans les membranes. Peut-être moins vrai avec les structures à base de nano-matériaux(?). PS: dans le spatial, ils utilisent aussi beaucoup l'effet Pelletier-Seebeck (source chaude avec isotope radioactif, style plutonium).
